Why Do You Feel Tired After Reiki? (And What Your Body Is Doing)
If you’ve had Reiki and felt unusually tired afterwards…
You’re not alone.
One of the most common questions people ask is:
“Why do I feel so exhausted after Reiki?”
Let’s break down what’s actually happening — and why it’s usually a good sign.
🌿 Is it normal to feel tired after Reiki?
Yes completely normal.
In fact, feeling tired is one of the most common responses after a Reiki session.
Some people feel:
- deeply relaxed
- heavy or sleepy
- like they need to rest immediately
Others may feel fine at first, then notice tiredness later.
🧠 What’s actually happening in your body?
Reiki encourages your system to shift into a more relaxed state.
This is often called the “rest and reset” mode.
When this happens:
- your nervous system slows down
- your body starts processing stress
- your mind becomes quieter
If you’ve been running on stress or adrenaline, this shift can feel like sudden fatigue.
⚡ Your body is processing more than you realise
Tiredness can also happen because your body is:
- releasing tension
- processing emotional energy
- adjusting to a calmer state
This takes energy even if you don’t feel anything dramatic during the session.
🌙 Why some people need extra sleep
After Reiki, many people notice:
- deeper sleep
- going to bed earlier
- needing naps
This is your body taking the opportunity to recover and rebalance.
💭 “Did something go wrong?”
This is a common worry.
But in most cases, tiredness doesn’t mean anything negative.
It usually means your body is:
👉 slowing down
👉 letting go
👉 recalibrating
🌱 What should you do if you feel tired?
Keep it simple:
- rest if you can
- drink water
- avoid pushing yourself too hard
- give your body time to adjust
You don’t need to “fix” anything.
⏳ How long does it last?
For most people:
- a few hours
- or up to a couple of days
After that, many notice they feel:
- clearer
- calmer
- more balanced
✨ The bigger picture
Reiki isn’t just about feeling relaxed in the moment.
It can shift your system in ways that continue afterwards.
Tiredness is often part of that process.
💬 From my experience teaching Reiki
Students are often surprised by how their body responds especially the need to rest afterwards.
Once they understand it’s normal, they stop worrying and start trusting the process.
✨ Want to learn Reiki for yourself?
In my 1-day Reiki Level I course, I teach you not just how to use Reiki…
But also how to:
- understand what your body is doing
- stay grounded
- protect your energy from others
